چکیده

The Syngas Chemical Looping (SCL) process converts gaseous fuels such as syngas and hydrocarbons into hydrogen and electricity while capturing 100% of the CO2 generated 1, . The SCL process simplifies the overall fuel conversion scheme while reducing pollutants in an indirect but highly effective manner. This is achieved via a specially tailored Fe2O3 based composite particle. As a result, hydrogen production cost is substantially reduced. Extensive demonstrations of the SCL process have been carried out under a bench scale (2.5 KWt) unit using coal-derived syngas, natural gas, and other light hydrocarbons as feedstock. Hydrogen with an average purity higher than 99.95% was produced. In this paper, the SCL process demonstrations are discussed. ASPEN® simulation based on the bench scale demonstration results was used to analyze the SCL process.

Particle Size Optimization for Syngas Chemical Looping Process

The syngas chemical looping (SCL) process developed at the Ohio State University can efficiently convert coal derived syngas into hydrogen with in-situ CO2 capture. In this novel process, two moving bed units are used to convert syngas into hydrogen through the assistance of an oxygen carrier particle. A third unit, an entrained bed combustor, is used to convey the oxygen carrier particles to c...

Software Development for Simulation of Reformer Furnace

In recent years, lots of research has been done on effective usage of natural gas; the first step in these processes is conversion of natural gas to Syngas. Natural gas reforming process by refomer furnace is commonly used for syngas and hydrogen production. In this paper, a windows based software, RIPI-RefSim, is introduced. By using proper heat, mass, kinetic and thermodynamic models as w...

Determination of Suitable Concentrations of H2O and CO2 in the Feed of Syngas Production (RESEARCH NOTE)

Modeling and optimization of synthesis gas production via the non-catalytic partial oxidation of methane (NCPO) were studied by minimizing of Gibbs free energy, and comparison studies were carried out to analyze the mechanism of syngas production. For this purpose, concentrations of CO2 and H2O in the feed were optimized in specified pressure and temperature, such that the hydrogen to carbon mo...

Optimization of Hydrogen Production by Chemical-Looping Auto- Thermal Reforming Working with Ni-based Oxygen-Carriers

Chemical-Looping auto-thermal Reforming (CLRa) is a new process for hydrogen production from natural gas that uses the same principles as Chemical-Looping Combustion (CLC). The main difference with CLC is that the desired product is syngas (H2 + CO) instead of CO2 + H2O. For that, in the CLRa process the air to fuel ratio is kept low to prevent the complete oxidation of the fuel. The major adva...

Simultaneous high hydrogen content-synthesis gas production and in-situ CO2 removal via sorption-enhanced reaction process: modeling, sensitivity analysis and multi-objective optimization using NSGA-II algorithm

The main focus of this study is improvement of the steam-methane reforming (SMR) process by in-situ CO2 removal to produce high hydrogen content synthesis gas. Sorption-enhanced (SE) concept is applied to improve process performance. In the proposed structure, the solid phase CO2 adsorbents and pre-reformed gas stream are introduced to a gas-flowing solids-fixed bed reactor (GFSFBR). One dimens...
